CS Foundation
It is an entry-level test for Company Secretary course, which is held twice in a year in the months of June and December.
CS Executive
The next step after foundation examination is Executive Level Course. It is an intermediate level test for Company Secretary course, which is held twice in a year in the months of May and November.
CS Professional
The last level to qualify as Company Secretary course is Professional, which has been designed to impart expert knowledge in the field.
Eligibility:
- You must have passed 10+ 2 examination or equivalent from a recognized institution.
- In case the result of class XII has not been declared at the time of registering for CS Foundation, the students can apply for provisional registration.
- You should have completed 8 months from the Date of Admission for the CS Course.
- For, December exams the cut-off date to get registered is 31st March.
- For, June exams the cut-off date to get registered is 30th August.
Test Details
- Foundation results are announced in the following month of the exam.
- Passing criteria — 30 marks in each paper & 50% in total.

Two Sections – 90 Minutes – 200 Marks
- Business Environment and Law (100 marks)
- Business Management, Ethics and Entrepreneurship (100 marks)
Session 2
Two Sections – 90 Minutes – 200 Marks
- Business Economics (100 marks)
- Fundamentals of Accounting and Auditing (100 marks)
Eligibility:
- Clear Foundation Programme/Graduates from all disciplines except Fine Arts can directly enroll.
- A student appearing in the month of December the cutoff date to get registered is 31st March.
- A student appearing in the month of June the cut-off date to get registered is 31st August.
- 1 year needs to be completed within 5 years of registration for the Executive Programme.

After clearing the Executive/Professional Program, students are compulsorily required to undergo 15 months of practical training in a company or under a Advisory board and faculty.
A qualified CS can either be employed by a company or can start his/her own practice. As per section 383A of the Companies Act 1956, it is mandatory for companies with a paid up share capital of Rs.5 crores or more to appoint a Company Secretary. A CS to start practice requires a Certificate of Practice (CoP) from ICSI (after having qualified as a CS).
